In the French city of Meaux, two Moslem women have been sentenced to a fine for wearing veils while walking near the city’s major’s office. This is the first time when women are trialed for walking veiled in France. The women – 32-year old Hind Ahmas and Najate Nait Ali, 36, – are going to appeal against the court’s decision to the European Court of Human Rights. Their lawyer says that for a Moslem woman, a ban on being veiled outdoors is equal to a life sentence.
