The mutual fund industry in Bulgaria thrived until a year ago. Twelve months later it is a whole different story for the sector. The results of the collective investment schemes for the first six months of the year are indicative of this. A total of ten mutual funds and investment companies posted positive return for the first half of the year. Elana Fund Money Market topped the ranking with 3.94% return for the period, data of the Bulgarian Association of Asset Management Companies (BAAMC) show. There is little to report on the Hungarian investment market because it has all but stopped since January 2008. After a record 2007, when the total investment market reached EUR 1.8 billion, this year is set to be a record low year, Colliers International said in a market report.In the first half of 2008, no institutional grade office building was sold and the activity in the industrial and retail sector has been anaemic. Sofia was the Bulgarian city with the smallest average housing area per resident in 2007, said the national statistical office. The capital offered on average 17 sq m of housing space per resident versus over 20 sq m nationwide. The nationwide average is marginally higher than last years 19.9 sq m per resident. Population centers in the greater Sofia area and in the Pernik area boast the highest average housing area per residential at over 27 sq m. Residents in Vidin, Gabrovo, Kardjali, Kyustendil, Lovech and Montana inhabit 22 to 25 sq m on average. Homes in Plovdiv, Ruse, Sliven, Pazardjik and Blagoevgrad are more cramped with average living space per resident of less than 18-19 sq m. The... |

Gerdjikov said that the measures are designed to limit the growth in the number of vehicles in Sofia and raise more money for repairs to road infrastructure. Two taxes in Bulgaria"s capital will be increased, Sofia Deputy Mayor Minko Gerdjikov said on Friday, February 8. Tax on real estate will increase from 1.5 per cent per thousand to 2 per cent per thousand and tax on vehicles will increase by 25 per cent. |
