6th Annual Diaspora – Israeli Russian Film Festival

Diaspora – Israeli Russian Film Festival is highly anticipated annual film festival presented by RACC in collaboration with the Russian and Slavic Studies Program, Hunter College, CUNY.

The 6th Annual Diaspora – Israeli Russian Film Festival kicks off on Sunday, March 6, with the New York Premiere of documentary “Super Women” by Israeli directors Yael Kipper Zaretsky and Ronen Zaretsky.

Another Israeli film director Helen Yanovsky will present documentary “Jerusalem Boxing Club” about Russian-born trainer Gershon Luxemburg and his boxing club. The festival will show Holocaust remembered drama film Mother by Iryna Zhygaliuk and documentary Guardians of Remembrance by Boris Maftsir. For the first time, Israeli immigrant from the Soviet Union Ariel Roubinov presents his HD documentary “The Return: Nektalovs Never Give Up”.

The last special presentation is a comedy web series “Happy Hour Feminism” by an award-winning actress and writer Anna Fishbeyn about a futuristic talk show where men experience all the media pressures placed on women today.

The festival will be concluded with Anna Fishbeyn’s live performance of “My Stubborn Tongue” her one-woman show about coming to America during the Cold War and her family's hilarious attempts to fit into American society.

Now in it’s 6th year, the Festival explores the overlap of cultures and gives voice to a much-maligned community. Q&A sessions with directors, Panel Discussions, Reception will follow.
