Damascus supports the Russian-U.S. plan on the cessation of hostilities in Syria, beginning February 27, and is determined to resolve the crisis politically, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad told Interfax.

"Everything that's going under the Russian Federation's and the United States' leadership, I mean precisely, the Russian-American initiative [on the cessation of hostilities in Syria], we agree with, so that Syria can overcome the crisis," Haddad said on the sidelines of a conference titled 'The Middle East: From Violence to Security' as part of a Valdai Discussion Club session on Feb. 25.

"We have announced, all along, that the Syrian government agrees with the outcomes of the Vienna conferences and accepts [UN Security Council] Resolution 2254. Therefore, we, and our Russian friends, are looking for a political solution to the issue," he added.
