MOSCOW (Sputnik) Russian energy giant Gazprom is capable of increasing gas extractions to fully meet the peak demands of both Russian and foreign consumers, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

“We can quickly increase extractions and fully satisfy the peak demand for both our Russian and foreign consumers, and, of course, provide 100 percent reliable and uninterrupted deliveries,” Miller said.

The Gazprom chief said the company extracted a total of 444 billion cubic meters of gas last year. This is less than the energy giant’s maximum capacity of 617 billion cubic meters.

"This helps Gazprom make it smoothly through the peak season in the fall and winter months while satisfying all peak demands that can come during abnormally freezing temperatures," Miller explained.

Gazprom’s gas exports to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2014 fell 9 percent, from 162.7 billion cubic meters to 147 billion in 2013. The company’s deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said earlier in June they expected demand for Russian natural gas in non-CIS countries to grow up to 155 billion cubic meters.
