Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov has discussed with Sung Kim, U.S. special representative for North Korea policy, the prospects of settling the nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula in connection with the hydrogen bomb test in North Korea. "There was an in-depth exchange of opinions on the prospects of settling the nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula in the light of the North Korean report on a hydrogen bomb test. Concerns about Pyongyang's actions, which are a direct violation of the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, were voiced," the Russian Foreign Ministry has reported. The report says that "Russia reiterated that there is no alternative to a political and diplomatic solution to the problems that exist on the peninsula within the framework of a six-party negotiation process, and also the need to avoid steps that can increase the conflict potential in the region. The document states that the phone conversation between Morgulov and Sung Kim took place on Wednesday on the U.S. initiative.
