MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Last week, a spokesman for Egypt's Ministry of Civil Aviation said Cairo expected the Russian delegation to carry out its final inspection of the country's airports in April.

"I do not link it to anything. We are planning [the security check]," Sokolov told RIA Novosti, answering a question on whether the audit of security checks at Egypt airports is still on the agenda in light of the recent hijacking incident.

On Tuesday, Seif Eldin Mustafa, allegedly motivated by personal reasons, hijacked a plane with 81 passengers on board en route from Egypt’s Alexandria to Cairo. The plane subsequently landed in Cyprus' Larnaca airport. None of the passengers or crew members sustained injuries during the incident.

Russia imposed a ban on flights to and from Egypt after a Russian-operated Airbus A321 crashed en route from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg on October 31, killing all 224 people on board. Russia’s Federal Security Service said a terrorist attack had caused the tragedy.
